History
The first International House was established by Harry Edmonds in New York in 1924. Since then, student residences with the common aim of fostering global friendship have taken root across this country and around the world.
In addition to San Diego, there are fifteen International House locations around the world, accommodating around 9,500 students from more than 125 countries annually. Over the years, 350,000 people have been able to call I-House their home away from home.
UC San Diego International House was founded in 1988, in connection with the establishment of Fifth (now Eleanor Roosevelt) College. In 2003, ERC and I-House relocated to their current site, a complex designed by renowned architect Moshe Safdie.
