I-House Programs

Subscribe to the I House Newsletter to find out about our programs! I-House hosts a large number and variety of programs. Most are run by students in I-House and all are open to anyone interested in participating.

Have your own ideas? International House can also serve as a great launching point for programs that you might want to start.

Language Tables

Language Tables provide a place for people to experience, learn, and teach various languages. There are a variety of tables held each quarter, beginning second week, with different meeting times and locations. See the Language Tables page for more information.

International Affairs Group

The International Affairs Group is a weekly session that addresses global issues that can be social, cultural, political, or economical in nature. These sessions bring speakers ans students from around the world to talk about global addairs that are important in today's society. Programming ideas are welcome! Monday at 7pm (with limited exceptions) in the Great Hall

I-Cares

I-Cares is the volunteer service club within the I-House community. Previous I-Cares projects have included on-campus projects, projects based in the San Diego community, and some projects based in Mexico. Past events include Green Week (environmental sustainability), trips to an orphanage in Mexico, and tutoring local high school students. This group meets weekly. Wednesday 9:00pm, Cuzco Lounge.

Sunday Supper

Sunday Supper is a quarterly event where International House residents, alumni, and community members, enjoy entertainment, food, and each other's company. Each event has a unique cultural twist. Past Sunday Suppers have focused on Brazilian traditions, or the Diwali festival of Indian origin. A committee meets once a week to plan every aspect of the event: theme, decorations, and food. Meet with us Wednesdays at 9:00pm in the Director's Office to learn more about how you can be involved in the most venerable and memorable quarterly I-House tradition around!

Culture Café

Held twice a quarter, this event celebrates the diversity of languages and cultures represented in I-House. Each café highlights a specific culture from around the world, and will incorporate food, music, games and more.

Model United Nations (MUN)

Model United Nations members emulate the United Nations by taking on the role of diplomats and forming delegations to attend conferences. At these conferences, student delegates debate international issues, give speeches, draft resolutions, form political alliances, and resolve international conflicts all from the perspective of their assigned country.

Culture Nights

There are three Culture Nights held each year, one per quarter. Each evening is filled with food, information, and entertainment from a specific region of the world, brought to you by I-Housers. every quarter there is a committee to help with the event - get involved!

Community Supported Agrigulture

Each Thursday, Garden of Eden Organics CSA comes to campus with fresh fruits and vegetables from local growers. Come purchase a subscription or simply pick up some fresh produce.

Fireside Gatherings

Every Sunday night in the Great Hall, you can cozy up to the fire, read a good book, and sip hot tea while chatting with friends before the week ahead. Look out for special Fireside Gathering events like dance workshop by iGroove, karaoke nights, and Residence Life community programs with our fellow ERC neighbors! Sundays 9:00-11:00 in the Great Hall.

I-Sports

This year I-Sports will be working with the Recreation Center & Outback Adventre to get the I-House community involved in sports and outdoor activities. Look for our intramural teams!

I-Publish/I-Produce

Each quarter there is an I-House newsletter which features events and articles about the I-House community and its residents. At the end of the year, the committee creates a yearbook! This year we will be utilizing a Snapfish online photo account for all of you to upload your pictures to. Sharing our memories has never been easier!

International House of Programming (I-HOP)

This club is in charge of preparing resident-initiated on- and off-campus programs. In addition to study breaks, past events have included trips to LA, Julian, restaurant gatherings, karaoke nights, hikes at Torrey Pines, and more. This club meets weekly. Monday 6:00pm Cuzco Lounge

SLAM/iParty

Whether you’re a musician, poet, dancer, actor or comic, you can show your talent at a SLAM (Spontaneous Art, Laughter, and Music) or just revel in the talent of others. SLAMs are held twice a quarter at 9:00 after Café Ventanas Global Marketplace. iParty dances are held at the end of each quarter to celebrate and say good-bye to all the I-Housers that are returning home.
