IRC at UCSD is excited to announce its reappearance as Refugee Connection.
In the past, IRC at UCSD has been a vibrant student organization that facilitates student involvement with the local resettled refugee community and raises awareness for refugee issues worldwide. The club has organized on-campus orientations for International Rescue Committee volunteers and a carpool system to help students volunteer in a sustainable way. We are especially proud of our partnership with Prospect journal last year to put on the symposium Beginning Again: Refugees, San Diego and the Politics of Resettlement.
Our mission statement for this upcoming year is to work with multiple refugee organizations in order to expand our volunteer services and benefit the San Diego refugee community as much as we can. We aim to provide a domestic option for Global Health majors and minors to complete their field experience through volunteering with the health needs of refugee populations. We also hope to partner with UCSD professors to incorporate refugee issues into the education of students. As our rebranded Refugee Connection organization at UCSD, we plan to host events to fundraise for different local refugee organizations, including the continuation of the Culture Cup soccer tournament.
Refugee Connection will be holding GBMs starting in the fall, and welcomes interested students to contact us through the Facebook page, Refugee Connections at UCSD or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org
