International House seeks to enhance the diversity of countries and cultures represented at I-House through residential scholarships. Funding for these grants is made possible through the generous support of donors from the San Diego community, I-House alumni, current I-House residents, and others who believe in the importance of a geographically, culturally and economically diverse living learning community.

Awards are based on demonstrated financial need, character and ability as well as the applicant's interest in contributing to the I-House community and internationalization of the UCSD campus through participation in I-House programs. Additional criteria for each award are described below. Continued funding from quarter to quarter is dependent upon awardees remaining in good status and completion of program commitments.

Miguel Velez Scholarship for Students from Latin America

To increase the number of International House residents from Colombia and South America, the Miguel Velez Scholarship provides generous funding to subsidize the cost of living in I-House to non-immigrant students from those regions. Awards range from $1,000 to $6,000.

International House Residential Scholarship for Students from Africa and the Middle East

Grants ranging from $500 to $2500 will be awarded to qualified non-immigrant applicants applying to live at I-House from countries in Africa and the Middle East that are underrepresented in the I-House community. Priority will be given to students who have been personally negatively impacted by widespread violent conflict in their home countries.
