UCSD's International House, established in 1988, offers a unique living environment that fosters understanding, cooperation, and friendship among people from different nations, cultures, and backgrounds. Half of the residents are from the United States and the other half represent over 30 different countries. I-House is jointly administered by the Eleanor Roosevelt College Office of Residence Life and the International House Director's Office.

International House is a unique, lively community because all residents make a commitment to be active participants in the programming for the area. Residents commit to the following when applying to I-House:

• learn about people from other cultures, with an open-minded approach to the experience
• share one's own culture
• participate in scheduled events
• help plan an activity for the community
